Tom Churchill: Building the Glide-Line Brand

Today, we’re celebrating Tom Churchill, a Senior Sales Engineer with Glide-Line who has been with the team since 2012. We are always looking for ways to improve our product offering to our customers and ways to improve customer experience, and Tom has been an integral part of that mission here at Glide-Line.

 

Tina2Tom is the guy that everybody wants to be around. He makes everything better with his enthusiasm, curiosity and incredibly big heart. His laugh literally turns heads, creates smiles to all those in the room (strangers or not), and brings warmth to every situation. His impact on building our Glide-Line brand from day 1 will be a story that will be told forever in the halls of our business (for more on that story, click here). As Tina Turner would say, Tom is "simply the best!"

 

Throughout his tenure at Glide-Line, Tom is most proud of building strong relationships and partnerships with our customers. He adds, “My biggest success is building confidence with our customers and demonstrating that our solutions will meet and or exceed their expectations. This ability comes from a product line that is not only far advanced from the competition, but is backed by a company that truly stands behind it.” We truly value Tom’s ability to walk into any customer or potential customer, knowing he has a solution that will solve just about any current issue they may be challenged with. 

 

Tom has worked on quite a few projects during his time at Glide-Line so far, with a few of his favorites in just the past year (2020). We were challenged with a number of systems based around the COVID-19 demands. We quoted, designed, fabricated and shipped a number of Glide-Line systems in a two-to-three week time frame. As a company, we were “all hands on deck” working around the clock to meet those demands. It was hard and challenging, and he loved it.   

 

It’s clear that Tom loves his work at Glide-Line. When asked what makes us different from other employers, Tom says, “Well for one, NCC is an employee owned company, which is very cool. In my 42 years in the industrial and automation industry, I’ve never seen a company that works as hard as it does to make our work environment and experience a meaningful one. We have created a “can do” culture where we continually challenge each other to be our better selves, to deliver better products, and to have fun while doing it.” 

 

When asked to elaborate on building the Glide-Line brand with Kevin, Tom talked about how, from the start, it was about believing in the product, the company that stands behind the product, and our goal to provide the customer with a state-of-the-art product that was tailored around their needs and wants. We also added a unique software tool (IMPACT!) that added to the customer experience with these same goals. 

 

“When you have all those things and you throw in some great customers and hard work, you have a Glide-Line success story. A quick story I'll share was in the beginning. I was traveling so much, flying from one end of the country to the next meeting with customers and doing product demonstrations, I actually forgot where I was. I woke up in the morning, swung my feet out of bed and was sitting there on the edge of the bed thinking about my day, when it hit me…I totally forgot what city I was in! I panicked for a few minutes and grabbed my phone to look at my schedule so I could figure out where I was. It was only for a brief moment, but I marked it up to a very late night and a martini (or two) with dinner.” It’s all good, Tom! 

 

Tom CrewOffline, Tom likes to build and drive radio-controlled (RC) trucks. He also enjoys target handgun shooting. He says that even with all his accomplishments at Glide-Line, he considers his family “crew” his best accomplishment. Tom has been happily married for 43 years, with three children and seven grandchildren (ranging in age from 8 to 17).

Kevin Mauger started working for the parent company of Glide-Line the day after college and bought the company 12 years into his career when it was at an all-time low. The company has multiplied in volume 5X since and is growing at 20%+ year over year. In a Surprise Announcement in 2017, in a dream come true, he gave almost half of his company to his employees. Personally, his entire life is based upon spending time with his family, figuring out a way to get out deep sea fishing, and supporting his Philadelphia Eagles.
